A burst pipe is an emergency – it can cause serious damage to your home's structure and electrical wiring. It's vital to take action as soon as you discover this problem.

Dealing with a burst pipe

  1. Turn off the water supply
Turn off the main stopcock. You should find this where the service pipe enters your home.
  2. Drain the system
Drain the system by turning on all your cold taps and flushing your toilets. Drain any hot taps.
  3. Turn off the electrics
If the leak is near your electrics or electrical appliances, switch off the mains immediately. If the mains switch is wet, don't touch it.
    Call a qualified electrician immediately.

Be environmentally friendly

If you notice the leak quickly you can catch the dripping water in buckets. If the water has already been leaking for some time and the ceilings are bulging, it may not be safe to enter the room. If in doubt, call a professional. However, if the ceiling is bulging slightly and you're confident that there is no danger, punch a small hole in the ceiling panel with a screwdriver to let the water drain.

Blocked Drains

Blocked drains and sewer pipes can equally cause a lot of damage to your property. Overflowing toilets and drain outlets can cause quite a stink besides the potential threat to your health.

It's vital to establish exactly where the blockage is by using the latest equipment without having to resort to costly excavations while "trying" to locate the problem.

Burst pipes and blocked drains are unpleasant and inconvenient for any homeowner or resident. When something goes wrong with your plumbing and you need a fast response call M.C. Buck Plumbing.
